Yes, you can give yourself post hypnotic suggestions, and yes the results can be very dramatic. The trick is to choose the way you do it, be disciplined and do it often. the best way is to use a downloaded file from though you can also use a facebook app called ‘My Hypnotist’. This gives you a free self hypnosis file each day.

Try it.

    1) Yes, it is possible to easily give yourself post-hypnotic suggestions during self-hypnosis.
    a. you can repeat an ‘auto-suggestion’ to yourself, such as ‘I’m a good sleeper’ or ‘I know what to do’ (important to move toward what you want and do not say it in a negative way — say ‘calm and comfortable’ rather than ‘I am not nervous’)
    b. you can imagine feeling the very good feeling of having the change you want already, or see a vision/mental video of yourself living happily with the change you want having already happened.

    2) If you give yourself useful post-hypnotic suggestions, the change will be real. As for ‘dramatic’, well, though you may do what you want to do, it probably won’t feel too odd, because it is your own mind deciding to make the change. It’s never a case of some outside influence (either you or someone else) forcing you to make a change — that might feel dramatic. It’s a case of you, just simply allowing yourself to do things in a different way. Though this may be dramatically different for your life, you do not feel odd or disturbed by that, because it is you, doing what you want to do. You see? It is very powerful, and very gentle at the same time. Personally, I think that’s fantastic!

When I wanted to go to the gym and do water aerobics 4X a week, I began to do self-hypnosis each morning, for about 20 minutes. I’d go into hypnosis, then visualize myself enjoying being in the pool with the nice folks there, and how pretty the water is, and how much I liked getting out of the house in the morning. Then, I’d also think to myself (for an autosuggestion) “I just feel better when I go to the gym!” I’d think that often — when daydreaming, when I left the gym, before I went to bed. So, what happened is, after about 5 weeks of doing this, one night, my husband wanted me to stay up and watch an episode of a comedy DVD he’d bought. I said, okay, and did. It was good. Then he wanted me to watch another one! I said “Okay, but if I do, I won’t be able to go to the gym, because I won’t have had enough sleep.” He was fine with that. :/ So, I watched it, then went to sleep. In the morning, I suddenly realized I was in the pool, doing water aerobics! I was shocked because I had not expected to go to the gym — didn’t set my alarm, it wasn’t hard to get up and go, I did not feel tired, I felt good and was doing what I wanted to do. THAT is how hypnosis works. I easily was able to do what I wanted to do. Can you see? Powerful and easy at the same time.

I am a professional hypnotherapist, and in working with a client, I always teach them to do self-hypnosis, as it is so helpful for just about any issue, and for allowing yourself rest and comfort right in the moment. It’s an extremely healthful state, and completely natural and pleasant.

If you’d like to learn hypnosis for self-use, I’d suggest you get this book and read it, and it will tell you everything you need to know about the practical, useful nature of self-hypnosis. It’s a wonderful book by the late Charles Tebbetts, called ‘Self-Hypnosis And Other Mind-Expanding Techniques.’ This book reveals the structure and workings of the mind, and how to facilitate self-hypnosis, in a very clear, simple way.

    Best of luck with it!
