kinda. inception was more of a drug or narcotic that made people believe with imagination what was going on, you could argue that they were under hypnosis while on the drug

  2. TobyF says:

Hypnosis is a way of reaching trance. The logical critical part of the mind is significantly reduced and there is greater access to the instinctive unconscious. Distortion of sense of time is common. It is not the same as sleep though as the person is aware of everything around them. They also know they have been hypnotized usually.

Inception is about invading people’s dreams. Dreams don’t follow logic and again time can pass differently. Dreams tend to have less control over them, and people usually don’t realize they are dreaming at the time. In Inception it seemed to be possible to implant suggestions into the unconscious, which is commonly associated with hypnosis.
