Question by prettygrrl1975: Have you had success with hypnosis for fears/phobias/past bad experiences?
I had a bad experience with surgery 6 years ago, and I need to have another one now. I freaked out today, and the surgery was cancelled. A friend suggested I try hypnosis, and I wondered if anyone has had success getting over a similar situation using hypnosis. Thanks!

In the past I have tried hypnotherapy with 2 different therapists for a period of about 6 months each. I had long term trauma and abuse issues in my past. I found the therapy very relaxing and reassuring. My therapists tried to get me to change certain behaviors that I had been doing for many years and that was less successful. The results only lasted a short time. So ultimately I stopped.

In your case I think it could help you with the surgery. The best part of undergoing hypnosis is being able to relax and relieve stress. The main thing is finding someone you can trust and build a rapport with. I think multiple sessions are necessary. You can’t just go once. It’s worth a shot. Good luck.

Hello. I am a clinical hypnotherapist. Hypnosis can work well for fears and phobias, but I recommend hypnotherapy instead. The difficulty is in finding someone who is very qualified. I recommend choosing someone who is a clinical hypnotherapist certified by the American Council for Hypnotist Examiners. They have a list of approved schools on their website, which is a good way to find certified clinical hypnotherapists. Here’s the link: The difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy is that hypnosis is relaxation with affirmations (which is effective but is sometimes like putting on a band aid), whereas hypnotherapy helps you get to the root of the issue. This way you can truly heal your fear/phobia. Good luck with your surgery, and I hope you find some help in your area.
