Well, you have to have the other person’s trust for starters. Once you have that, then explain to them what hypnosis is and what it would be like in that state… a pre-talk before the actual induction. This is definitely a key before doing the real thing. Otherwise, you’d just have a nervous subject, and they need to be calm and relaxed. It’s your job to explain everything about this to them beforehand.

If you’re past that point, then focus on if they have a good imagination or not. Do some exercises like a heavy/light arm test, hand lock, or other simple visualization tests. A person that’s good at visualizing is going to be the one that’s going to be hypnotized the easiest. Heck, just talking about whether or not they yawn if they see someone else yawning can be an icebreaker in that department. You’d be surprised how many people actually yawn right when that question is done being asked…because they go in and visualize that moment. Aha!

On your end, you have to show confidence. You can’t be all willy-nilly or stuttering and stammering. I had that problem at first myself. If you aren’t confident that it will work, then neither will the person you’re trying to hypnotize, even if it’s on a subconscious level. You can slip up once in awhile during a dialogue… Just refrain from doing it too much. If you need to practice, talk in front of a mirror or something to that effect so you can gain that much need confidence. It is tough at first, but over time, it becomes second nature. This is coming from someone that’s very shy in public, by the way.

Those are mostly the basics. Confidence on your end, giving confidence to the subject, visualization, and practice. With those tools at your disposal, you’ll get the hang of it soon enough!
