Hypnosis therapy is like aspirin — it is a â??techniqueâ? which many people believe in, but a technique that is not fully understood. Many people view hypnosis therapy with suspicion and distrust. Hypnotherapy can allow you to escape from typical patterns of response and behavior to achieve greater flexibility and choice. Hypnotherapy works by allowing you to relax deeply, so giving you the ability to choose new ways of doing, being and thinking, without being controlled by past experience.

Hypnosis Therapy â?? Can anyone be hypnotized?

Hypnosis therapy, also called hypnotherapy has been shown to be more successfully experienced by people with a particular personality type. Dr. Herbert Spiegel, Psychiatrist and leading expert in the field of hypnosis, has grouped the population into three categories according to their â??hypnotizabilityâ? and ranked them with a numeric score to indicate their susceptibility. Those scoring lowest (scoring 0 to 1) are termed â??Apollonians.â? Apollonians are generally not responsive to hypnosis or make very poor subjects. They are rational, guarded, and inhibited; they will not suspend critical judgment and are not trusting.

Myths and Misconceptions about Hypnosis

Hypnosis is not mind control or brainwashing. People change their minds and actions throughout their lives. When such changes occur as a result of exposure to specific information, it is because this information has been presented through persuasion and influence. A hypnotherapist uses communicative methods of persuasion and influence; so do people who advertise and market goods and services; so do teachers, politicians, lawyers, entertainers, parents, and ministers.

What is it useful for?

Hypnosis is used medically for many things. Studies say that it works well for: Treating nausea and stress-related bodily symptoms.Managing some aspects of addictive behavior. Treating pain from small incisions, burns, or breakage, and pain from cancers or ulcers. Immediate or short-term relief from the pain of migraine headaches. Reducing the level of drug use for cases of chronic pain (like, say, pains of the back or of misaligned hand or jaw joints).Treating those who regress or go back to behaviors from their childhood.Short-term concentration on one specific thing.

What problems can be treated by hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy can be applied to many psychological, emotional and physical disorders.  It is used to relieve pain in surgery and dentistry and has proved to be of benefit in obstetrics.  It can shorten the delivery stage of labour and reduce the need for painkillers.  It can ease the suffering of the disabled and those facing terminal illness, and it has been shown to help people to overcome addictions such as smoking and alcoholism, and to help with bulimia.  Children are generally easy to hypnotise and can be helped with nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) and chronic asthma, whilst teenagers can conquer stammering or blushing problems which can otherwise make their lives miserable.

Smoking control through hyponsis

For years the link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer and chronic lung disease has been well documented and well known. Most people still associate cigarette smoking with breathing problems. But that’s not the whole story.Cigarette smoking is also a major cause of heart and blood vessel disease.Should you be concerned? Yes! Don’t take cardiovascular diseases (CVD) lightly. Each year more than 950,000 Americans die of heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure and other cardiovascular disorders. That’s more than two of every five deaths, a life every 33 seconds. And over 57 million Americans have some form of these potentially lethal.
