Question by Chris: Does self hypnosis and learning in your sleep actually work?
Hey, i’m just exploring some more unheard of methods to supplement my science revision, i have a series of lectures that i play while i sleep. I’m just wondering does this actually work? also can i use some form of self hypnosis to maybe get my mind into a certain state which enables for a heightened Sense of learning. i.e. if i self hypnotize myself and play educational lectures in the background will it work?

I know self-hypnosis can improve studying and help, but I doubt that listening to tapes in you sleep will work. Your brain is not active during every phase of sleep and might interfere with sleep. However, play tapes over and over while awake may help, but the time you spend making tapes could be used studying. Hypnosis can improve study and help relax your mind to more easily accept the information.

    I have a few friends who have tried self hypnosis and they say that doesn’t work at all. But people are different so maybe it could work for you?. But, I have heard from several people including a doctor (which is a family member) and teacher that has said that you CAN learn in your sleep by listening to tapes, or cds, or even the radio. I have had a high-school math teacher recommend to our class that we record what we were learning and play it with headphones while we were sleeping so that we could remember it. wether it works or not i have no idea, i didnt try it but it looks like if a teacher or doctor were to recommend it, that it does work.

    Hypnosis can help increase your ability to focus. that is the main benefit has for learning. It can also be used to motivate you to study more and like the subject more. There have been no studies that show any kind of sleep learning works. What has been show to work is studying then taking a nap. It helps lock in the new info.
