Q&A: Will hypnosis help get rid of phagophobia?

Question by SweetyPie: Will hypnosis help get rid of phagophobia?
Someone suggested it awhile back. I’m strongly against hypnosis, yet at the same time desperate.

NOTE: I have no idea where some of you come with ‘phagophobia is a fear of ice’ as all the dictionaries I own indicate that phagophobia is a FEAR OF SWALLOWING AND/OR CHOKING. So no, I’m not scared of ice.

Thank you.

I’m not making fun of you, but this is such a ridiculous phobia. You really can’t use will power?
How bout using what people would have had to done, before all these therapies.

Either eat… Or die being scared to swallow.

Try and go to a legitimate counsellor. Go to your doctor and they should refer you.
This should get to the root of your phobia, and will help you to resolve it.

    Good luck.

    This sounds pretty scary.
I think it would be a good idea to see a therapist/psychiatrist to discuss this fear of swallowing. Sometimes medication can help with the anxiety. Maybe learning different relaxation techniques related to your throat will help you feel better. Something pretty scary must have happened to cause this fear. I hope you will be able to feel more comfortable swallowing so this does not get in the way of you enjoying eating and other things as well. Good Luck.
Also, when I was four years old I had surgery on my throat and afterwords for a long time I didn’t want anyone touching my throat. I understand how things like this can develop.
