Self-hypnosis is quite simply a state of mind in which:

You can experience extreme relaxation
You paying absolute attention to the suggestions you want to put into practice
And, allows you to accept the suggestions made and not criticise them.

Self-hypnosis allows you to program your subconscious directly with positive affirmations and constructive suggestions and is a very effective method for reducing and managing stress and induces deep recuperative relaxation.

Here we’ll be looking at such questions as:

When should I practice self hypnosis?
Where is it best to practice self hypnosis?
How long should I practice self hypnosis?
Am I better off lying down or sitting?
Is it necessary to close my eyes?
Personal Change, What might I anticipate?
Is it possible to make the process easier each time?

When should I practice self hypnosis?

You can quite easily practice self-hypnosis whenever you have a few minutes free from interruption, disruption or distraction. However you should never under any circumstances what so ever, practice whist driving, operating or working with any kind of machinery or whilst you carry out any other action, activity or process that requires your full and undivided attention.

Where is it best to practice self hypnosis?

Somewhere private, safe, comfortable and peaceful would be an ideal place to practice for self-hypnosis. Usually indoors, although it is just as feasible to practice self hypnosis almost anywhere. You will accomplish more if you ensure that you can relax, be comfortable and free from as much external noise, disturbance or interruptions as possible.

How long should I practice self hypnosis?

Quality over quantity – as a guide 15 to 20 quality uninterrupted minutes a day is more significant than 30 to 60 minutes of disruption and disturbance.  Set a designated time aside when you will not be disturbed.

Bear in mind, all the time you invest in practicing self-hypnosis will be repaid as you make positive, life affirming self-change.  Practice on a regular basis, as you become more proficient you will probably find that the time you need to practice is reduced.

Am I better off lying down or sitting?

Being comfortable is by far more important I achieving your self hypnotic goal(s). Doing what feels most natural to you will work best and produce better results. Lying down to practice self-hypnosis may possibly make it too easy for you to drift off to sleep – but if your ultimate goal is to fall to sleep then lying down would be okay.

Then again, many people find sitting in a relaxed, comfortable position with the head supported produces the required results.

Is it necessary to close my eyes?

Many people experienced in self hypnosis can go into trance quickly and easily with their eyes open, but most people feel more relaxed and will find it easier with eyes closed to start with.

Personal Change, What might I anticipate?

The results you achieve will be entirely based on the suggestions you give yourself during your self hypnosis session.  Expect to make positive life changes, expecting change that will benefit your life is perfectly natural.  Change is natural its part of our existence, it happens to us and all those around us each and every day.

Is it possible to make the process easier each time?

By give yourself a suggestion some point during your self hypnosis session that you will enter trance more quickly and easily next time. An example, whilst in trance might be: “I can easily return to this deeply relaxed and focussed state of awareness again whenever I choose, simply by taking a few deep and relaxing breaths”.
