Question by : What do you think of a stage hypnotist doing a show at a gay club?
Im starting out doing stage hypnosis, and the area Im looking out has allot of gay clubs. I personally don’t have a problem with that, and would do a show at a gay bar. I just wonder starting out if that labels me as someone who’s gay or does niche gay clubs when really I am looking to do any and all. What do you think?

I know gay performers who work straight venues nobody seems to care what their orientation is. Why should anybody care if you work in a gay venue?

Well you’re only working; it shouldn’t affect what future employers think of you. I think you should go for it – anyone looking to hire you should be able to tell that you are making the best of the venues in your area, plus it makes you seem open-minded and friendly compared to performers who would refuse the gay bars.

let’s see…Bette Midler started her career in the Continental Baths, New York City….is that enough of an answer for you? James Cagney (Hollywood tough guy in many movies) started his career in drag!) Start where you makes no difference. And keep in mind, you are in the Entertainment business! Fully 1/2 the business is Gay!

i think that’s a homophobic attitude is what i think… the only one to care if your gay or straight when your putting on a show is you… asking this question negates your “problem”…

Tori Amos started out doing gay clubs.
Granted, pianists are different from hypnotists….

It probably wouldn’t be a bad thing at all. You could get a pretty loyal following of LGBT fans that way. A lot of LGBT clubs network closely with those in other cities, too, so that’d be an easy way for you to get gigs in other areas.
