  1. TobyF says:

A hypnotherapist, or in some parts of the world just a hypnotist. Hypnotherapy combines hypnosis with various therapy techniques.

    Other kinds of therapist include
Psychologist (needs more qualifications than a hypnotherapist usually)
Psychiatrist A psychologist who is also a fully qualified medical doctor.

You need to be 18 to train as a hypnotherapist in most parts of the world, and there aren’t any particular educational requirements needed.

Hypnotherapists can make a living, but they don’t make a fortune. It’s also a career you can swithch to later in life, if you’d like to get some life experience in other areas first. As you would almost certainly be self employed you will need to discover how that works in your part of the world too.

Psychiatrists may use hypnosis as part of their investigation into what they will consider to be a clinical illness. Hypnotherapists use hypnosis to treat people ie they see hypnosis as a potential treatment whereas psychiatrists favour medical solutions (generally).

However psychiatrists often refer patients for treatments that have elements of hypnosis within them (whether they admit to it or not) such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (C.B.T).

So, my advice to you, at your age, is to learn as much as you can about psychology at this stage. Work hard at school and try to get the best qualifications you can so that you can study further at college and maybe university. During that time, if your interest in hypnosis continues, start looking at the broad subject of Hypnosis and, for treatment using hypnosis, hypnotherapy.

Good luck and I hope this helps.
